Photography

Richard approaches the camera the way he approaches a canvas. In his words: “I want to make painterly photographs, and play with pictorial space (inner/outer) through composition, color, and focus.” In the Water Nymph series he photographs the figure in water, using surface reflections and shifting focus to create spatial tension and surprise. In the SPIME WARP series he plays with both space and time, creating a new kind of Cubism that exists in real time, made in-camera in a single shot.
